Head to Tail Groomology Policies

The following are some everyday policies to ensure a positive and safe grooming experience. Others are policies that will only apply to some pets who do not enjoy grooming as much as others.  Violation of these policies could result in cancellation of appointment, fees associated, and possible deletion of account(s).

Grooming Schedule Policy: We love working with your pets and we want the opportunity to truly connect with them. Eventually we will want to see all or at least most pets on a 6-8 week schedule.

Groomers often observe changes in your pets health and well being that can help you care for your pet effectively. Pets that are groomed frequently are more comfortable with the experience, less matted, and are overall happier.

Pets that are in matted or impacted condition, causes more strain not only on their bodies, but on the groomers bodies as well. We want only the best for our clients and our employees, that means all dogs need to be scheduled at most every 8 weeks, unless otherwise instructed by your groomer. We understand that sometimes things happen and you need to reschedule, but chronic rescheduling that causes your dog to be overdue for grooming, may cause you to lose your spot on our books permanently

Late Policy: Grooms will be accepted until 10 minutes after scheduled appointment time. After ten minutes, the appointment will be canceled and the owner will incur the $25 cancellation fee.

Cancellation Policy: Head to Tail Groomology requires a 24 hour notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Failure to give notice and no call/no shows will be charged a $25 cancellation fee. After two late cancellations or no-shows, the owner will need to prepay for grooming services. Card is required to be on file. These fees double during the week prior to Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Inclement Weather Policy: We will do our best to give all clients at least a two-hour notice if their appointment needs to be rescheduled due inclement weather. If you know that you cannot make your appointment, please call or text us as soon as possible. Our normal cancellation policy does not apply when there is inclement weather. Please understand that some of our groomers do not live in Grand Junction and if they feel it is unsafe for them to come to work, we will reschedule your appointment even if you feel that you could make it. Please check our Facebook page for closing or delayed opening updates.

Drop off/Pick up Policy: Please arrive on time for your pets appointment to ensure that there is enough time to groom your pet and to help keep our schedule for the day on time. Head to Tail Groomology opens at 9am, we are not at the shop prior to opening. Please arrive at the time of opening and not prior so we can make sure that someone is there to check in your pet. If you are running late for your appointment please call us to make sure we can still take your pet for the given day.  Our scheduling system relies on accuracy of pick-ups and drop-offs to be able to accommodate all clients for the day - arriving late can negatively affect all subsequent appointments.  Arriving 10 minutes or later for an appointment can void your appointment. Any appointments of the day can have their appointment canceled after 10 minutes

All of our appointments are estimated to be one to four hour appointments, unless your pet is oversized or requires special handling and care.

Once your pet is finished you will receive a call or text letting you know. Due to our smaller facility and to ensure a lower stress environment for other pets, pets should be picked up within one hour of their completion time. Pets left at our salon beyond that may have a housing fee of $15 per pet added to their grooming bill. If you need to have your pet longer at the salon,  arrangements need to be made with us prior to your appointment

Matted Pet Policy: Pets that are not groomed every 6 to 8 weeks may become matted. Matting occurs from lack of grooming, coat overgrowth, not routinely being brushed, or a coat not being combed through prior to getting wet. Additional fees apply for dematting a pet.  When matting is severe and/or close to the skin the only humane way to remove the mats is to clip the coat off to the skin line. In some cases where the matting is not severe and only covers a small area, we can remove them by splitting, thinning, and then brushing them out, 15 of brushing comes with every groom. There is a fee of $15 every 15 minutes to de-mat your pet after the 15 minute allotted time. Severe matting may require an hour or more. Matted coats are hard on our equipment and in most cases require two haircuts, the first to remove the matted coat prior to bathing and a second to even up the coat after bathing. We are not responsible for health conditions that may be revealed by removing a matted coat such as sores, but do our best to ensure your pets’ skin is cared for. There is an additional $10-$20 shave fee for severely matted pets. If the pet cannot be de-matted and has to be shaved down, the dematting fees still apply

Aggressive and Hard to Handle Pets: Aggressive dogs will have to be assessed at each time of their grooming appointment. If we are unable to start or complete a groom based on behavior, a Special Handling Fee will be applied, and we have the right to refuse or discontinue service.

If we must discontinue service due to behavior, the services that were completed will be charged at time of pick up. A $10-$20 handling fee may apply pending the pet’s tolerance to grooming. Some pets become too stressed out to safely groom in one session.

Senior Pets: Senior pets may take longer to groom because they need more breaks to be comfortably groomed. This may incur additional handling fees ($10-$20). Some pets become too stressed or cannot be comfortably groomed in one session.

Express Services: (Pets groomed straight through, with no interruptions) $25+ fee. Please state during scheduling if you would like the pet groomed straight through. Sometimes a pet may be required to have an express service by the groomer if a pet is disruptive before or after the groom (i.e. excessive barking, digging at gates or kennel doors). Appointment slots for Express Services are only available at 9AM. A charge of $25 for small dogs and $50 for large dogs will be added to a pet's bill for this service. If your pet is oversized or requires special handling care, an express service may not be possible.

REFUSAL OF SERVICE: We reserve the right to alter or cease any groom in the event that we determine it is in your pet’s best interest or your pet displays aggressive behavior. Head to Tail Groomology has the right to refuse service to your pet at any time for any reason.  The client may be charged the full price of the groom even if we are unable to complete it.

Accidents: Accidents can and do occur. These include cuts, scratches, scrapes, “quicking” of nails, clipper burns, brush burns, etc. In most cases this happens when a pet moves suddenly. Every effort will be made to ensure that your pet is groomed as safely as possible. In the event an accident does occur, you will be notified of the situation. If  Head to Tail Groomology feels it is serious, we will seek immediate veterinary care for your animal and all veterinarian costs and expenses will be the responsibility of the animal’s owner.

Animal Health Policy: The animal must be fit and healthy. Any grooming taking place on an elderly animal or an animal with health issues will be at the owner’s risk. These pets may have to go home and finish the groom on a separate date. Grooming may expose pre-existing health/skin problems for which the company cannot be held liable. Your pets safety and comfort is our primary concern. Please do not come to an appointment with an ill or injured pet. If your pet is showing signs of illness, has open wounds, or has an injury please call and reschedule your appointment. For the safety of your pet and other pets we will not groom an ill or injured pet.

Vaccination Policy: Canines must be up to date on the following vaccines: rabies (titers not accepted), distemper/parvo (titers accepted), leptospirosis (often included in distemper combination), bordetella, and canine influenza H3N2. Felines must be up to date on rabies (titers not accepted) and feline distemper combination (titers accepted). Proof of vaccination must be on file before grooming can be scheduled. Unvaccinated pets put themselves and others at risk.

Prices and Quotes Policy: All prices and price quotes are estimates and are subject to change at any time. Actual costs of a groom can NOT be determined until the groom is complete, thus, any quotes are merely an estimate, and the final charge can not be disputed. Actual charge of a groom is based on a number of factors such as coat condition, pet size, pet behavior, type of cut done, presence of fleas/ticks, hair type, presence of mats, excessively dirty coats and other grooming related factors.

Payment Policy: Payment will be made as per price list/quote at the time of service. If there are questions on the price, please ask and we can assist you.

Correction Policy: If you are unhappy with our service, please let us know. We will be happy to correct grooms within 48 hours of picking up your pet. This does not include if you “changed your mind” and want a different body length or clip than you originally told us. Please check your pet’s haircut before leaving our shop. Corrections must be scheduled with the original groomer

Photo/videos Policy: We love to take pictures of our beautiful pets, and these pictures can be used for any social media or business purpose.  I hereby grant permission for Head to Tail Groomology to use my pets name and or picture for promotions, advertising or portfolio images and release Head to Tail Groomology from any liability.
